Natural Peri-Menopause Relief
By Renee Staples
As I hit my mid forties, I found myself in peri-menopause. This is the stage right before full menopause for women. Periods can either increase or decrease in length or volume. Hot flashes become apparent, and many women begin to see the first signs of hormonal changes that will bring you into full menopause in a few more years. For me, my problems began with extended periods. I would not have a period for several months, then have a period where I bled continuously for weeks. My gynecologist tried birth control estrogen pills which just made the matter get worse. Then he tried a drug called Migesterol, which lightened my periods but did not stop them. I was at wits end with the continuous bleeding. One day I saw an ad for natural menopausal relief, and found that extended bleeding in peri-menopause was a common complaint. The remedy suggested the use of red raspberry leaves to control or stop the bleeding. Never having used natural medicines, I was skeptical, but decided what the heck, I would give it a try. I went to my local Natural Health Store, and bought a bottle of red raspberry leaves in a capsule form. I took 3 capsules per day, and in 4 days my bleeding had totally stopped. My periods became fewer, and when they did come, I would take the raspberry leaf capsules to relieve the bleeding. Red raspberry leaf capsules are sold under several brand names in natural pharmacies, and health food stores. They are expensive, and can run around $12 per bottle. I found that growing my own red raspberries, and harvesting the leaves was a much cheaper way to get the leaves without paying the high prices. I did not dry my leaves, I chewed them right from the bush. Some people do dry the leaves, and make a tea,but for me, just chewing 4 or 5 leaves, did the trick. I do recommend washing the leaves well in cold water, before eating them raw. For the night sweats and hot flashes during menopause, I found that Black Cohosh capsules taken twice a day relieved the symptoms. Black Cohosh is widely available in grocery stores vitamin isles, as well as health food stores. It is affordable at about $4 for a large bottle of capsules. I hope this article will be able to help you, if you are not getting the relief you need for your menopausal symptoms. Please pass it on to friends, and relatives who may be struggling as well. |
